The diagnostic process of a General Practitioner may one day be taken over by algorithm-based AI that can diagnose and recommend patient-specific treatment. How do we feel about this? We welcome a future with technology. If it weren’t for technology we wouldn’t have MRIs, vaccinations and keyhole surgery. Even the oldest tool of our trade, the stethoscope, has in many ways been replaced by more accurate diagnostic technology such as x-ray and ultrasound.
We do feel, however, that our being a good doctor involves much more than reaching a diagnosis and whilst robots may be able to supersede us in this task one day, they will not be able to replace the sense of care that only one human can give to another. We’re always here to help, so come in to see one of us and we’ll help sort out anything you throw at us.
